Call for Transparency: Public Safety Bureau Demands Independent Audit of Ghana’s Presidential Jet

Bureau of Public Safety (BPS) is urging the government to subject Ghana’s presidential aircraft to an independent safety assessment before it returns to active duty, insisting that only a transparent, third-party review can guarantee public confidence in the jet’s airworthiness.

The call comes after the Falcon 900EX presidential jet returned to Ghana following nearly eight months at the Dassault Falcon Service facility in Paris. The aircraft reportedly underwent its routine 24 month maintenance cycle, clocking a 1,600-hour inspection, detailed diagnostics, and manufacturer-led repairs after the discovery of several defects.

Speaking  on Sunday, November 16, BPS Executive Secretary Nana Yaw Akwada said the jet’s return should be welcomed, but cautioned that declarations of its safety must be backed by independent verification—not internal reports from the Ghana Armed Forces or general maintenance summaries from France.

“We cannot rely solely on what has been communicated by the Ghana Armed Forces,” he noted. “Before anyone describes this aircraft as safe, an objective, independent certification must be carried out so the public can understand exactly what issues were identified and how they were resolved.”

Mr. Akwada emphasized that Ghanaians deserve full transparency on the exact work done on the aircraft. He said details of safety checks, the bodies that conducted them, and a comprehensive post-repair airworthiness report must be disclosed.

“Without full disclosure and independent audits, everything else is speculation,” he stressed. “We need clarity on the scope of work, the certified agencies involved, and the jet’s current operational status. Only then can anyone speak confidently about its readiness for presidential use.”

He advised the public and the media to disregard unofficial reports or assumptions about the jet’s condition until the government commissions and publishes an unbiased certification process.
