President Mahama Swears In Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as New Chief Justice President John Dramani

The ceremony took place on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the Jubilee House in Accra, following Parliament’s approval of his nomination earlier this month.

President Mahama nominated Justice Baffoe-Bonnie on September 23, 2025, acknowledging his vast judicial experience and distinguished service at the High Court, Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court. He has served as Acting Chief Justice since April 22, 2025, after the suspension and subsequent dismissal of Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

Ahead of his confirmation, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie appeared before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on November 10, where he promised inclusive, bipartisan leadership. He reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding judicial independence and expanding access to justice across the country.

Parliament approved his nomination on November 13 with 163 votes in favour and 69 against, paving the way for his official swearing-in today.
